The X Series Amplifiers are certified as AirPlay 2-Enabled receivers. Each VSSL zone works with the Home App on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Using AirPlay gives listeners these abilities:
-
- Group zones together on the fly! (Refer to Multi-Zone Listening & Grouping)
- Use Siri to start streams - "Hey Siri, play Holla Back Girl by Gwen Stefani in Kitchen."
- Use the Apple Home app to create automations like having your entrance music start playing when you arrive home or wake up the whole house every Friday morning at 6 am with Rebecca Black's hit song "Friday"!
- Take calls, play games, watch some reels on your iOS device without interrupting your music!
Set Up with VSSL App
A.1x Set Up
- Decide whether you want your A.1x to be set up with a wired connection (Ethernet) or wireless (WiFi). You cannot use both at the same time so you will need to choose the best option for the situation. The A.1x is the only amp that can be set up wirelessly.
- Connect the power cable and wait for the unit to boot up. Once you see the flashing white light, it is ready for set up.
- If you are using WiFi to set up the A.1x, open up your settings app and select WiFi. Scroll to the bottom and look for the section, "Set Up New AirPlay Speaker". Make sure you are connected to the network the A.1x will be set up on. Give the speaker a new name and hit next. Wait for it to join then you're good to go
-
- If using a wired Ethernet connection, it will be available right away in the AirPlay menu. Open up the VSSL app and click into the A.1x settings. Give it a new name and you're ready to start streaming with AirPlay!
Multi-zone Amp Setup (A.3x/A.6x)
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the amp, power up and wait for the flashing white lights.
- Open the VSSL app and tap "Set Up" when the pop-up card is shown.
3. Follow the prompts to complete set up then you're good to go! Note: Unless you use Google Home for other devices, feel free to skip that step. It is recommended to complete the Google Home set up for any listeners that may have an Android device or prefer to use Google Cast but is not necessary for iPhones or iPads.

If you are having issues with the app not discovering devices, please refer to this article: https://vssl-help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/25963900678299-Network-Settings-Suggested-Topology
*Proper network configuration is important for the overall performance of multi-cast streaming. Not all routers are configured for multi-cast*
*Please make sure your set up device, iPhone/iPad, is up to date with the latest software. This can cause issues with VSSL app discovery as well as AirPlay functions*
Adding VSSL Devices To Your Apple Home App
Once you have completed set up of your VSSL device(s), install Apple Home if it is not installed already, then:
- Open the Home app, tap the plus sign (+) at the top of the page then tap "Add Accessory"
- Tap "More Options..." (the VSSL device will not use a QR code or proximity to set up your device)
- All of your VSSL zones will then appear. Select the zone(s) you want to set up
- Choose the speaker location then press "Continue"
- Create a Speaker Name and press "Continue" (Note: Changing the name here will also change the name in the VSSL app. This is the name Siri will respond to.)
- Tap "Continue to bypass creating Automations for now. Click "Done"
