VSSL allows you to stream audio to more than one zone or set of speakers at the same time. Because, we are certified Apple, Google, Amazon, and Spotify, depending on which device (Android or iPhone), you have multiple methods for streaming to multiple zones.
iOS AirPlay 2 - Grouping "On-the-Fly"
One of the great advantages for iOS users is the ability to stream via Apple's proprietary AirPlay 2 streaming protocol. Grouping On-the-Fly and Multiroom volume control is simple and always available at your fingertips on both iPhone and iPad. You can access the AirPlay 2 menu via your favorite music streaming app, the lock screen, or the control center.
Google Cast - Google Speaker Groups
Android users have been provided with the native Google Cast capabilities. Using the Google Home app, users are able to control their VSSL zones individually and as a group. Setting up those groups for use with Google Home requires some additional set up within the Google Home app.
- Start by opening Google Home
- Select the 'Settings' tab on the bottom of the screen
- Tap the 'Add' button (It will look like this, '+ Add')
- Select 'Speaker Groups'
- Select each zone of audio that you wish to combine. Include all of the different combinations you wish to have. If a zone does not show in the Speaker Group menu, please make sure each zone is added to a Room within Google Home
- Note: All audio devices must be set up and connected to the same WiFi network, and on the same WiFi that your phone or tablet is connected to.
- Note: At least, 2 speakers must be selected in order to create a speaker group
- Note: Each zone you are adding to a group, will need to be linked to your Google Home account in order to be placed in a room
- Enter a name for the speaker group and click 'Save'
Alexa Cast - Multi-Room Music
You can use the Alexa app to combine your VSSL zones using speaker groups. (Similar to Google Home) Using the Alexa app, you can choose which Alexa speakers to use with that speaker group. For example, you could create a group called, "Everywhere", that includes every VSSL zone in your home. (In fact, Alexa will already have a default group, "Everywhere", group if you already have multiple Echo speakers) You could also create "Upstairs" and "Downstairs" speakers groups as well as "Bedroom Suite" and "Kitchen/Dining" groups. Feel free to get creative and keep in mind that a single speaker can belong to multiple speaker groups.
- Start by opening the Alexa app
- Select the plus (+) sign, in the top-right corner of the screen
- Select 'Combine Speakers', then select 'Multi-Room Music'
- Select each of the speakers that you like to combine
- Give the speaker group and select 'Save'
You are now ready to stream music to multiple zones via Amazon's platform. Visit Amazon's Support page for more information.
